The item list has four view modes: Grid, Masonry, Justified, and List. For libraries with many images, the modes that keep each image's proportions work well.

## Switch the view mode

Choose a mode with :ui[View Mode] in the toolbar, or from the :ui[View] menu.

| View mode | Layout | Key |
| --- | --- | --- |
| :ui[Grid] | Thumbnails in equal-sized cells. | ⌘1 |
| :ui[Masonry] | Thumbnails in columns, fitted to each thumbnail's aspect ratio. | ⌘2 |
| :ui[Justified] | Each row is filled edge to edge, keeping aspect ratios. | ⌘3 |
| :ui[List] | Names, kinds, and other details in a table. | ⌘4 |

## Change the sort order and thumbnail size

Choose the sort order with :ui[Sort By] in the toolbar: :ui[Name], :ui[Date Added], :ui[Date Modified], :ui[Kind], :ui[Rating], or :ui[Random]. Then choose :ui[Ascending] or :ui[Descending].

Adjust the thumbnail size with the slider in the toolbar. You can also choose :ui[Small], :ui[Medium], or :ui[Large] from :ui[View] > :ui[Thumbnail Size]. In List, the thumbnail size can't be changed. In the toolbar, the List button is named :ui[Table].

## Look at an item closely

Select an item and press the Space bar, or choose :ui[View] > :ui[Quick Look], to see it in the standard Mac Quick Look. Double-click an item to open a preview inside Crabwise. In the preview, the left and right arrow keys move to the previous and next items.

To give the list more room, use :ui[View] > :ui[Hide Sidebar] and :ui[Hide Inspector].
