Bring browser bookmarks, an Eagle library, a bookmarking service's CSV export, or a folder on your Mac into a Crabwise library. The files and folders you import from aren't changed.

A library must be open. To import while creating a library, choose :ui[Import from Another App] in step 3 of [Create your first library](https://soji.dev/en/crabwise/support/getting-started/first-library.md).

## Import

1. Choose :ui[File] > :ui[Import from Another App or Folder…]. The :ui[Import from Another App or Folder] sheet opens.
2. Click the source. Under :ui[Apps] you'll find Safari, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Eagle. Under :ui[Services] you'll find Pocket, Raindrop.io, Instapaper, and Diigo. For other bookmark files, choose :ui[Import from Another Bookmarks File…]. For a folder on your Mac, choose :ui[Import from a Folder…].
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to choose the exported file or folder, then click :ui[Choose]. A review screen appears.
4. Check the counts and the items that won't be imported. :ui[Add to collection] is filled in with the name of the source. Change it if you like.
5. Click :ui[Import]. :ui[Importing…] appears, and :ui[Import finished] appears when it's done. Click :ui[Done] to close it.

Everything imported goes under the collection you set in step 4. To stop partway, click :ui[Stop]. Items already imported stay in the library.

## Prepare the file for each source

| Source | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| Safari | Choose :ui[File] > :ui[Export] > :ui[Bookmarks] and save the HTML file. |
| Chrome | In the Bookmark Manager, choose :ui[Export bookmarks] and save the HTML file. |
| Edge | Open Favorites, choose :ui[Export favorites], and save the HTML file. |
| Firefox | In :ui[Manage Bookmarks], choose :ui[Export Bookmarks to HTML] and save the file. |
| Raindrop.io | In :ui[Settings] > :ui[Backups], export a CSV or HTML file. |
| Pocket | Choose the exported CSV. If you still have the ZIP, unzip it first. |
| Instapaper | Download the CSV from Settings. |
| Diigo | Export your library as CSV. |
| Eagle | Quit Eagle, then choose the Eagle library folder. |

Each bookmark becomes one web link. From a CSV, collections, tags, notes, and dates come along too. From Eagle, images, videos, web links, folders, tags, notes, and dates are imported, and star ratings become tags. From a folder, every supported file inside is imported; subfolders become collections and Finder tags become tags.

## Find out what wasn't imported

The review and finish screens count the items that won't be imported, by reason. For example: an item with the same content already exists, the file type isn't supported, or the file is missing. When :ui[Skip files with the same content] is on, anything already in the library is skipped.

For a full list, click :ui[Save Details…]. The files that couldn't be imported are saved as a CSV file.

Thumbnails for imported web links are made one after another once the import finishes.
