Move items to the Trash and put them back

Updated:

On this page
  1. Move items to the Trash
  2. Put items back
  3. Empty the Trash

Items don’t disappear when you move them to the Trash. You can put them back from the Trash. Emptying the Trash erases them for good.

Move items to the Trash

  1. Select the items you want to remove.
  2. Choose Item > Move to Trash. On the keyboard, press Command-Delete.

Items in the Trash no longer appear in lists, search, or Spotlight.

Put items back

  1. Click Trash in the sidebar.
  2. Select the items you want back and choose Item > Put Back.

Empty the Trash

  1. Choose Crabwise > Empty Trash….
  2. In the confirmation, click Empty Trash. This can’t be undone in Crabwise.

When you empty the Trash, the items’ folders are moved to the Trash on your Mac. Until you empty that Trash, you can take them out in Finder.

Deleting a collection, tag, or Smart Collection doesn’t send items to the Trash. The items stay.
