Add from Safari and the Share menu

Updated:

On this page
  1. Add from Safari
  2. Add from the Share menu

Add the page you’re viewing to Crabwise with the button in Safari’s toolbar or from the macOS Share menu. You can add pages even when Crabwise isn’t running. What you add is brought in the next time Crabwise opens.

Add from Safari

First, turn on the Safari extension.

  1. In Safari, choose Safari > Settings… and open Extensions.
  2. Turn on Crabwise.

Then, with the page you want to add open:

  1. Click Crabwise’s Add to Crabwise button in Safari’s toolbar. A popup appears.
  2. Choose Save Web Page. To add the page as an image instead, choose Selected Portion, Visible Portion, or Entire Page under Screenshot.
  3. For a web page, check Thumbnail: and Save Reader Article, then click Add. Added. appears.

If Safari hasn’t been allowed to access the page, the popup says “Crabwise cannot read this tab. Allow this extension to access this website in browser settings.” Go to Safari > Settings… > Extensions and select Crabwise. For each website, you can set access to Ask, Allow, or Deny. You can also click Crabwise’s toolbar button in Safari and allow the website for 24 hours or always.

Add from the Share menu

For Crabwise to appear in the Share menu, its sharing extension must be turned on in System Settings. See Crabwise doesn’t appear in the Share menu.

  1. Open the page you want to add in Safari or another app.
  2. Click the Share button in Safari’s toolbar, or choose File > Share…, and then choose Crabwise.
  3. In the sheet, check the library it will be added to and click Add.

From the Share menu you can add a web page address or a video file. Images and PDFs can’t be added this way. Drag them into the window instead.
