The Safari extension can't add a page

Updated:

This article explains what to do if adding from Crabwise’s button in Safari shows an error, or if the button doesn’t appear. The message that appears points to the cause.

Option 1

Turn on the extension

In Safari, choose Safari > Settings… and open Extensions. Check that Crabwise is on.

Option 2

Allow access to the website

If you see “Crabwise cannot read this tab. Allow this extension to access this website in browser settings.”, go to Safari > Settings… > Extensions and select Crabwise. For each website, you can set access to Ask, Allow, or Deny. You can also click Crabwise’s toolbar button in Safari and allow the website for 24 hours or always.

Option 3

Use a tab with a web page

If you see “This tab has no webpage address.”, the tab is a new tab or another screen that isn’t a web page. Try again in a tab that has the page you want to add.

Option 4

Start Crabwise

If you see “Crabwise is not running or could not be reached. Open Crabwise and try again.”, open Crabwise and add again. If you see “Crabwise did not respond. Make sure it is installed.”, also check that Crabwise is installed on your Mac.

Option 5

Check your trial or purchase

If you see “Start a trial or purchase Crabwise in the app to save.”, the trial has ended. For how to buy, see How the 30-day trial and purchase work.

If it still doesn’t work, include the full message and your Safari version when you contact us.
