A web link's thumbnail doesn't appear

Updated:

This article explains what to do if a web link has no thumbnail, or if the thumbnail shows a sign-in screen. Crabwise fetches thumbnails one after another after you add links or import them.

Option 1

Wait for the fetch to finish

While Thumbnail: … left shows at the bottom of the sidebar, the fetch is still going. Leave Crabwise open and wait.

Option 2

Check whether the page needs a sign-in

A page that requires signing in can end up with a picture of its sign-in screen, because Crabwise opens it without being signed in. To keep the page’s content, save a reader article or save an image.

Option 3

When you add a web link, choose either OG Image or Screenshot next to Thumbnail:. Add the link again with the one that didn’t work avoided. If the one you choose can’t be fetched, the other is used. If neither works, the link is added without a thumbnail.

Option 4

Restart Crabwise

Crabwise tries each item without a thumbnail once every time you open it, and stops after three tries. If an item hasn’t reached three tries yet, quit and reopen Crabwise to try again. There is no way to retry by hand.

If it still doesn’t work, include the page’s address when you contact us.
